The Bird in Your Hands Prize

What a delight to get the news that my group of poems, “Abuelo’s Flowers” + “Standing in Line” + “Vision” placed as Runner-Up in The Bird in Your Hands Prize. These three poems will be published in Thin Air Magazine, forthcoming in 2023. The poems share a theme of Mexico and Iowa, and my life between these two Motherlands.

Enchanted Illusions Art Show 2023

I’m so happy to share that 9 of my Lupita paintings have been chosen for the Enchanted Illusions Art Show at the Polk County Heritage Gallery for the month of January 2023. Thank you to The Sunny Porch for hosting the event.

Knoxville Public Library Award

I’m honored to have been chosen as one of the recipients of the 2022 Art Award given by the Knoxville Public Library in Knoxville, Iowa. (Online press release here.)

My digital watercolor painting title, “Three Friends” was chosen to be installed in the Children’s section of the library and will remain there as a part of the library’s permanent public art collection. It’s incredible to think that my Lupita artwork will be part of children’s memories of going to their local library and enjoying all the great books and activities there. I’m really happy and thrilled about this amazing news.

Donation to World Central Kitchen

I’ve created this special painting titled Lupita in a Sunflower Field. It features the national flower of Ukraine (sunflowers) and references the colors of the Ukrainian flag in the background of the painting. It’s currently up as a limited edition tote bag in my Threadless shop with all my artist profits donated directly to World Central Kitchen, who are on the ground feeding people at the border of Ukraine. Introducing My New Guadalupe Series

I’m working on a series of paintings featuring my Lupita portraits combined with traditional Our Lady of Guadalupe symbolism. I do this in thanksgiving for blessings given and blessings coming soon, and with much love and gratitude to my Patron Saint, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Available now in my artwork shop.
